what are you reading (you cunt)?

i'll be able to read for fun in less than a week. I have several half finished books i could go back to, or i could start on silent spring

I am reading a book about organizing my house. I also have the 9 steps to financial freedom to read next. I read mostly books about how to do stuff because most reading for fun books make me crazy or bore me to tears. It has to be really good. Like Coming of age in Mississippi, the autobiography of Ann Moody is my favorite. And The Power of one is great too. The Red Prophet series was so good until the sixth book where he fucked it all up and didn't even remember what was in the first five. I read Charly, it's an LDS book that the movie was based on. The movie was good but the book was so stupid. The didn't do any research for the book and lacked consistency. One day he is buying disposable diapers then suddenly his wife is dying and he is washing cloth ones. Like he would have time for that. And there was no mention of severe poverty forcing him to go cloth. Besides, the church would have helped him. And she had cancer of the body. HELLO???

i was all excited to start reading my fever books that i got on monday. but i have no desire to read right now. something must be wrong with me.

i'm reading What is the What by Dave Eggers. so riveting. and of course savoring every second of Augustens new one, you better not cry.

I just started reading Tropic of Cancer last night. It was between that and Marrying Buddha but I wanted to read Henry Miller before reading another book by an author accused of heavily borrowing from him.

I'm reading picture books.

A LOT of them. Over a hundred have been sent so far, with a couple hundred more predicted.

Some of them are so bad they're hilarious.

Some are actually really, really good. I have a deep respect for anyone who can tell a story that spans the whole hero's journey and makes me feel - truly FEEL - something in SO few words. That takes incredible literary talent.

mmm, how much influence do the pictures have? I mean the same text with no pictures, would it have the same effect?

Anyway, if you are reading picture books you MUST read "Me Write Book" by Bigfoot. It is funny.

I just finished reading my friends little novella bush43 about a guy who runs around trying to be a super hero with a George W Bush Mask.

Read the Dead til Dark, sookie Stackhouse novel a little ago.

The Drifting Classroom which to me feels like what Kirkman read before he did Walking Dead.
And the persona3 mangas

Adam I started reading that Dawkins book a little while back. With all my class work I had to put it off for awhile. But so far it has been a pretty good read.

i've heard the blind watchmaker is his best, which I have read; but it's over 20 years old so I'm curious to see how his thinking has changed since then. Also I wasn't sold on his explanation of how life may have originated, hoping there's something new about that. I've got tickets to see him speak at an atheist convention next march, with peter singer on the same day! I would never go to an atheist convention otherwise, the last thing we need to do is start uniting like we need each other's support.

How did you find out about this atheist convention? Was it something that you looked for or did it find you, as in you came across it being advertised in the local paper. I'm sure they have them around here but I've never came across one. I did hear about a porn convention once....which I ended up going to.

Because I'm a student, there are all these interconnecting networks which reach me. A friend from our aniomal rights thing is a member of young australian skeptics who is hosting the event. It was pricey but is just after my birthday so i call it a present to myself.

The images do have a strong influence. Never enough to totally obscure written genius or to make textually weak stories shine too bright... I could probably talk about this forever. I won't, though. Anyway, these books are being judged (not by me) for an award based on their text, so it's interesting to read them while consciously trying to ignore the images. Some of the prettier books are actually weaker, more didactic, and have language less keyed to the story and audience than a first glance would have you assume. God, what a convoluted sentence. They suck harder than you'd think, given the pretty pictures.

I'll have to look for Me Write Book. I love funny children's books. Laurie Keller is a hero of mine because she is so funny. She wrote Arnie the Doughnut and The Scrambled States of America and Do Unto Otters. Genius, all of them.

it's not a children's book, so don't try the kids section of the bookstore. There is at least one other, not sure of the name. But oth are so funny i was in tears.
